We camped in two fabulous campgrounds, a Corps of Engineers (COE) and a county park. We also had a good meal at Mullets (like the hairstyle) in Des Moines. It is on Santa Rosa Island in a beautiful resort area. Our masks were always on when we had to go inside where there were other people. While there, we bought a few truffles at a candy store. That drink below was mine—a margarita with strawberries and jalapeño peppers. Our group had a nice representation at Crosswinds Campground, despite the weather. Caravanes . The driver was going slowly through the campground and stopping as various campsites. When we do have sewer at our site, we keep both the gray and black tanks closed until we are ready to empty. There were approximately 10 campers from our group. Now that we have made it back home and enough time has passed that we can feel confident we did not contract the virus, I am so glad we took this trip! I feel we were careful regarding pandemic risks and as long as we stayed safe, going camping was a worthwhile thing to do. When the stores were crowded, it seemed the most risky. We certainly had a great tour guide and she shared lots about how Iowa government works. We actually booked at an RV park almost a year in advance because there were not many options. So, it was worth the climb! It was a nice little walk through some lovely vegetation. With a little preparation, camping in a teardrop trailer can be a blast! The next morning, we said goodbye to our camping friends and were on our own for the remainder of the trip. The temperature was in the low eighties, but the sun was extremely intense. Different, but we liked them. Lazy Lakes RV resort in the lower keys proved to be a nice place to stay, but it was expensive. The photo below is a path that leads to a lookout over marshland with a lighthouse in the distance. Teardrop campers are small, lightweight versions of RV’s and are popular among people who are focused on an authentic, but more convenient camping experience. Sadly, we only had one full day in the area. Masks were also required. Due to Covid, the park is only open Thursday through Sunday and we were there Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The meal was astounding and the service was excellent! While we wanted this trip, it would not be worth it if we contracted Covid. The Czech and Slovak Museum  is one of the main attractions at Cedar Rapids and was well worth the time. Some models of teardrops have no cooking facilities, but others have a small area in back. However, our camper was in the sun for most of the day, but our tow vehicle was under a bit of shade. The roads were paved and the sites were roomy with pretty vegetation. Even so, it was better than staying at home and we made some progress at camping with a pet. Angie, another group member, brought a body wash spray that she requested someone formulate for her. We paid $46 a night for an immaculate pull-through shaded site with a concrete slab and full hookups. While we enjoyed this trip with our SE camping group, it was a long way to travel and the weather was far less than ideal. Parking was nonexistent except for a few lots and traffic was very heavy. It was so nice and peaceful in the garden, which had an abundance of flowers. We previously used a long padlock, but wanted something that was easier to get off and on. There was a meet and greet by a campfire one night and a potluck on another. The place is so large that the carts are very popular with the visitors. We currently use a block to unhitch and stabilize the front of our camper. We also camped at three campgrounds last year, Florida Campgrounds, Three Highly-Rated Parks. We did have a few days with warmer weather, but rain was a frequent visitor. Hannibal was a fun town and it was nice connecting with Mark Twain, an iconic and amazing writer. The park and the beach were wonderful, but our weather was not the best. I recently polled the members of the Facebook group that I am a member of and asked what they liked about teardrop camping. There was a a marina and you could take boat rides. We will definitely stay there again if in the area. I needed a refill on antibiotics for an upper respiratory issue and Raleigh’s CVS took care of my meds. Using a rock or the back of a camping shovel is not quite as efficient. It gave me a new appreciation for the craft. It was not requiring masks. However, it was a bit of an adventure. It seems to be working though.
