It's possible that Martinez was making a point about how people and governments stripped away Evita's humanity and made her into a symbolic object but it stands out. There was some fascinating history but there was just too much extra fluff about people who were vaguely connected to the story of Evita's body.

Really interesting book about the strange journey that Eva Peron's corpse took after Peron was overthrown. Evita is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics and book by Tim Rice. But either way, it's one to make you think about a lot of things, and it also makes me think I should read his other books, and learn more about Evita's life before she died. The story follows Evita's early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death.
This book was some undertaking. Also, reading about men getting crazier and crazier started to lose its charm.Santa Evita was quite hard to follow due to my lack of knowledge about Argentina's first lady Eva Péron and the historical background. Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinkin and Bob Guton all won Tony Awards for their roles on Broadway.
Three sets of six children alternate in ensemble roles. They are myths which somehow reproduce the image of Christ. I kept getting distracted by inconsequential matters every few pages. And so he did--weaving together facts and fantasy about the person, the myth and the movement. Martinez meanders through time periods and perspectives. Faced with losing her, her husband decided to make her immortal by having her preserved and put on display as Saint Evita.
