What The Signal lacks in character development and standard plot mechanics, it more than makes up for in mood, tone, and atmosphere. However initially intriguing the mystery is, the only thing worse than a stupid movie that believes to be smart is a stupid movie that believes to be smart and insults its audience, and so it is just awfully confusing with a lot of stupid plot twists that don't make much sense.
