Thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful tale told in the story-telling style of One Thousand and One Nights. It's a fairy tale. The stories were very human and revolved around themes of love (unrequited love, being loved for who one is and not what one has, love cannot be forced, love conquers all, and more). The film is a first part of Mushi Production's Animerama, a series of films aimed at an adult audience.
A Thousand and One Nights (Japanese: 千夜一夜物語, Hepburn: Senya Ichiya Monogatari) is a 1969 adult anime feature film directed by Eiichi Yamamoto, conceived by Osamu Tezuka. The fx were cheap but I didn’t mind them. I don't know who are actors because they are foreigners. I have no idea how this slipped through the cracks and hasn't received the proper attention, but it is amazing and while it is long, it's totally worth watching over and over. Truly terrific family movie. Wonderful in every way: acting, casting, costumes, story line, beauty, scenery, etc., etc. Beautiful costumes and settings and attractive and more than competent, (though mostly unknown,) actors; (particularly the man who portrays Aladdin and the woman who portrays a Sorceress he falls afoul of,) Nice happy ending and adult enough for grownups. You'll witness one sultry tale of desert lust after another, starting with a well-hung … Thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful tale told in the story-telling style of One Thousand and One Nights. This was a true surprise...gorgeous cinematography and effects, beautiful actors...the storyline is both enchanting, Princess Scheherazad is portrayed not only as a beauty but with a wit and intelligence as depicted in the story, enough to outsmart the fortgetful Prince Aladdin and the evil Sorceress...a wiseman takes the place of the genie in the lamp there are many allusions to this in the latter part of the journey. I am impressed by their acting.
